Put two black tees side by side on a rack. Same design, same ink. One sells out at a pop up and the other ends up in a bin. Nine times out of ten the difference is not the art, it is the blank underneath it. Streetwear lives and dies on weight, cut and hand feel, and the shirt your customer picks up has to feel like something they would buy in a shop, not something they got for free at a 5K.

That is why we carry the heavyweight and premium blanks streetwear brands actually ask for, including Shaka Wear, Los Angeles Apparel, Lane Seven, Smart Blanks and more, and we can decorate all of them. Here is how to choose.

What makes a blank a streetwear blank?

  • Weight. Heavier cotton hangs and drapes instead of clinging. It feels substantial in the hand and holds its shape after washing.
  • Cut. Boxy bodies, dropped shoulders, cropped and oversized fits. The silhouette does half the work before the print goes on.
  • Collar. A thick, tight rib collar that does not bacon after a few washes.
  • Dye. Garment dyed and pigment dyed pieces give that faded, worn in color that looks vintage on day one.
  • Consistency. If your first drop sells, you need the same blank in the same color for the restock. Brands with deep stock matter.

Shaka Wear: the max heavyweight tee

Shaka Wear is the name we hear most from people starting a clothing line. Their Max Heavyweight tees are thick, boxy and built to drape, and the drop shoulder and oversized cuts give you that streetwear shape straight off the shelf. The garment dyed versions add a washed, lived in color. If someone shows us a heavy tee from a brand they admire, there is a good chance a Shaka silhouette is what they are describing.

See every style on our Shaka Wear page.

Los Angeles Apparel: made in the USA

Los Angeles Apparel is cut and sewn in Los Angeles, which gives your brand a real made in USA story to put on the hang tag. Their fine jersey and triblend tees have a soft, retail fit, and the fleece holds up as a premium layer. It is a strong pick when the label matters as much as the graphic.

Lane Seven: fleece that feels retail

Lane Seven is where we go when a hoodie or crew has to feel like it came off a store shelf. Premium and French terry fleece, modern fits and a color range built around fashion shades instead of team colors. The Premium Hoodie is one of the most requested pieces for merch drops.

Smart Blanks: clean, modern basics

Smart Blanks makes the tees, long sleeves, hoodies, crews and full zips we keep on our own product pages because they print beautifully and look sharp on a hanger. A great middle ground when you want a premium feel across a whole capsule, from the tee to the zip hoodie.

The rest of the heavyweight bench

Independent Trading Co. makes the heavyweight hoodie that became the default for merch, plus the Legend cross grain line for an even heavier, more structured piece. Comfort Colors 1717 is garment dyed heavyweight cotton with a broken in look. American Apparel 1301 is a heavyweight cotton tee with a retail fit. Volunteer Knitwear brings chore tees and fleece with a vintage workwear feel, and Stanley/Stella makes organic cotton blanks, including the Freestyler heavyweight tee.

Every brand has its own page: Independent Trading Co., Comfort Colors, American Apparel, Volunteer Knitwear and Stanley/Stella. Or see every brand we decorate.

How to decorate a heavyweight blank

  • Screen printing is the go to once you are at 24 pieces or more. Our standard is soft hand plastisol, and we also offer water based and discharge for a print you can barely feel, plus puff and other specialty inks. See our specialty ink guide on the blog.
  • DTF makes sense for small first drops, samples and busy full color art. No minimums and no setup fees.
  • Embroidery looks right on heavy fleece and premium hoodies: a small chest hit stitched on a thick hoodie reads high end.
  • Garment dyed pieces vary a little from piece to piece. That is part of the look, so plan on it and let us know if you need a tight color match.

Starting a brand? We also print custom neck labels so your shirt does not say someone else's name inside. Check our private label page and our post on launching your first clothing line.

Questions we get about streetwear blanks

Is there a minimum order?

No. DTF and DTG start at one piece, and embroidery can too. Screen printing becomes the best value at 24 pieces and up.

Can I mix brands in one order?

Yes. A Shaka tee and a Lane Seven hoodie with the same design on one order is normal for us, and the combined count helps your price break.

How long does it take?

Orders ship 5-7 business days after you approve your free digital mockup. Rush is available at 3-5 business days, or 24-72 hours for tight deadlines.

Do you ship outside California?

Yes, we ship nationwide. Local pickup is also free at our Garden Grove shop.
