Get the Best Results: Artwork Preparation Tips
One of the most common questions we get at The Printing Needle is: "Is my artwork ready to print?" Great output starts with great input. Here's what you need to know to ensure your custom apparel looks its best.
File Formats We Accept
- Vector files (AI, EPS, SVG, PDF) — The gold standard. Vectors can be resized to any dimension without losing quality. Required for screen printing separations.
- High-resolution raster files (PNG, PSD, TIFF) — At least 300 DPI at print size. Great for DTG and DTF printing.
- JPEG — Acceptable if high resolution (300+ DPI). Avoid JPEGs saved from social media — they're too low-res.
Tips for Each Printing Method
For Screen Printing
- Vector artwork is strongly preferred
- Limit your colors (1–6 spot colors work best)
- No gradients unless using halftone effects
- Provide Pantone (PMS) color references if possible
For DTG & DTF Printing
- Full-color artwork with gradients and photos are fine
- Provide a PNG with transparent background for best results
- Minimum 300 DPI at the intended print size
